Nexus is Scrum for teams.
Nexus is a Framework for scaling Scrum. It is one of the most natural and organic ways, proposed by Scrum.org, to scale Scrum when multiple teams work together on the same product at the same time. Nexus builds upon Scrum, and empiricism is a pillar and a tool for optimizing and continuous improvement its implementation.
«Scaled Scrum is still Scrum»
Nexus Guide
When we talk about scaling, we are not trying to describe a hierarchical or bureaucratic structure, rather, in this context we are trying to empower teams to be self-managed and highly collaborative. And although, there are some figures within the dynamics of scaled teams that may seem like a hierarchy, in Nexus these roles (or accountabilities as the Scrum Guide calls it) are at the service of the teams, who are reponsible for the coordination between teams to reduce dependencies, increase transparency, and collaboration, in order to achieve the product goal in a more efficient and effective way.
The Nexus Framework is explained in the Nexus Guide published here. It is only ten pages and it can be downloaded in various languages, there is even a version in English that you can read online here.
Next, I want to share with you a mind map that I developed from the last Nexus Guide (published in January 2021). It is a visual proposition with a summary of the different accountabilities, events, artifacts, and benefits of The Nexus Framework:
